Run an Accessibility check in Word

  1. In an open Word document select File.
  2. Under the Info tab select Check for Issues.
  3. Select Check for Accessibility on the drop-down menu.
  4. The Word document will run a check and the inspection results will show on the right side of the Word document.
  5. The results will show Errors, Warnings, and Tips on how to make the Word document more accessible.
  6. You can select each Error, Warning, or Tip and it will take you right to the area of the word document that needs fixing.
  7. Below the results is additional information on why the Error needs fixing and steps to fix it.

Save a Word Document as an Accessible PDF

  1. In an open Word document select File.
  2. Select Save A Copy.
  3. Choose your save location, give the Document a name, and In the drop-down menu change the type to PDF.
  4. Select More Options below the drop-down menu
  5. Before Saving select the Options button.
  6. Make sure the Document Structure Tags For Accessibility box is checked.
  7. Click Ok then Save.
