Wired Ethernet authentication for Windows 10

NOTE: To connect via Ethernet you'll need to enable 802.1X protocol, which is disabled by default in Window 10. This process involves a lot of steps, but you only need to perform it once.
  1. Unplug the Ethernet cable from your computer.
  2. Click within the Search window and type in "Services," and select Services from the Best match menu.

     
  3. The Services window will open.

     
  4. Scroll down until you find Wired AutoConfig and double-click on it.

     
  5. The Wired AutoConfig window will open. 

     
  6. Select Automatic from the Startup type drop-down menu.

     
  7. Click the Start button.

     
  8. This will start the Wired AutoConfig service.

     
  9. Once the service has started, click the Apply button, then click the OK button.

     
  10. Next, you need to configure the Ethernet port for Authentication. Click the Start button and then select the Settings gear icon.

     
  11. In the Windows Settings window, double-click on the Network & Internet icon.

     
  12. In the Status window, double-click on Change adapter options. 

     
  13. Right-click on your Ethernet adapter and select Properties.

     
  14. On the Ethernet Properties window that opens, select the Authentication tab.

     
  15. Click on the Settings button next to Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP).

     
  16. In the Protected EAP Properties window, select Verify the server's identity by validating the certificate. At the bottom of the window, select Enable Fast Reconnect. Then, click the OK button.

     
  17. Then, click the Additional Settings button when you return to the Ethernet Properties window.

     
  18. Select Specify authentication mode, then click the down arrow and select User authentication.

     
  19. Click Save Credentials.

     
  20. Enter your username and password and click OK.

     
  21. Restart your computer.
     
  22. Once your computer restarts, reconnect the Ethernet cable.
     
  23. After a moment, you will be prompted with a Windows Security Sign in screen. Enter your Stonehill username and password. Then, click the OK button.

     
  24. You will be prompted with a Network Security Alert dialogue box. Click the Connect button.

     
  25. You are now connected to the Wired Ethernet network.
