Calendar

Use the Calendar to create and view activities across all your courses.  You can easily edit the due dates of existing assignments by drag and drop.  You can also use the Scheduler to setup appointments.  The iCal feed can also be copied into a personal calendar like Outlook or Google.

The Calendar can be viewed by Week, Month or Agenda.  Each view shows any assignments, events, or to-do items that you have created.

Each course has an associated color, which can be edited in the Calendar list (or from the Dashboard).  Events in the calendar will display in that associated color.   You can uncheck a calendar by clicking the colored box next to its name if you want to narrow your current focus to a particular set of courses.

Add Calendar Items

  1. Access the Calendar from the Canvas Global Navigation.
  2. Click the + button:
    Add Calendar Items button,  The + icon is highlighted.
     
  3. You can create an EventAssignmentMy To Do, and Appointment Group.

  4. For an Event, enter the Title, Date, Duration, and Location.  Choose the correct course Calendar the Event should be added to from the drop-down and click Submit.
  5. For an Assignment, enter the Title, Due Date, Course, and Assignment Group.  You can publish from here if desired with the toggle.  Click Submit.
    Note: we would recommend you click the More Options button before publishing or edit the assignment from the Assignments page to enter things like total points and what type of assignment it will be.
  6. For a My To Do event, enter the Title, Date, Time, Course, and Details. Click Submit.
    Note: The calendar defaults to the highest selected calendar in the Calendar list, so you may have to deselect some calendars to select your desired calendar.

Adding an Appointment Group

The last type of Calendar entry is an Appointment Group, which lets you create a block of time where students can meet with you.

  1. Access the Calendar from the Canvas Global Navigation.
  2. Click the + button:
    Add Calendar Items button,  The + icon is highlighted.
     
  3. Click Appointment Group.

  4. Add a Name and Location.
  5. Select which Course Calendars the group will be available in (you can choose multiple courses).
  6. Choose a DateTime Range, and Time Slot for meeting duration.  Click Go.
  7. Set your desired Options.
  8. Add any relevant Details (if you are meeting via Zoom you could put the Zoom link here).
  9. Click Publish.

The appointments will show up in your course calendar. 

Reserving an Appointment Group Time Slot

Students can book one of these appointments from their Canvas Calendar:

  1. Click the Find Appointment button:

  2. Select the correct course from the Drop-down menu.
  3. The available time slots will display on the set date.  Select the desired time slot and click Reserve:

  4. A reservation can be canceled by clicking the event and clicking un-reserve.  You will be asked to enter a reason for the deletion.
  5. When finished, click the Close button to close the appointment selector:
