Using Flip in Canvas

Flip is an innovative video discussion platform designed to enhance teaching and learning experiences. Formerly known as Flipgrid, Flip enables instructors to create and share discussion topics with students, who can respond with short video recordings (max of 10 minutes).

You can enable Flip in the course navigation menu, or you can add it as a link inside a module.  Students can access Flip via Canvas and will be added as members of the course group once they record their first response.

Create a Flip Assignment

Creating a Flip assignment lets you watch and grade a student's submission right in SpeedGrader.

Note: in order for the submission to appear in SpeedGrader, students must access the topic via the Canvas assignment, not from the Flip link in your course navigation.

Also, keep in mind Flip is designed to be a social discussion tool so students will be able to see their classmates' submissions.

  1. In your Canvas course click the Assignments link in the course navigation menu.
  2. Click +Assignment.
  3. Enter a Name and Points.
  4. From the Submission Type drop-down menu, choose External Tool.
