Add a URL to the Course Menu

By default, Canvas does not let you add new custom items to the course navigation menu; but you can use a 3rd party app called Redirect to add a URL to the course menu if you needed.

Add a Custom Link

  1. Click the Settings link at the bottom of your Course Navigation menu.

  2. Click the Apps tab.

  3. In the filter box, type Redirect.

  4. Click the Redirect app.

  5. Click Add App.

  6. Give the link a name, and paste your URL in the URL redirect field.  Ensure Force open in a new tab, and Show in Course Navigation are checked, then click Add app.

  7. Refresh your browser window to see the new link.  Note: you can only add one custom link with this tool.

Edit a Custom Link

If you need to update your custom link:

  1. Click the Settings link at the bottom of your Course Navigation menu.

  2. Click the Apps tab.

  3. Click View App Configurations

  4. Find your link in the list, and click the Gear icon to the right, then click Edit.

  5. Edit the URL in the Custom Fields box, click Submit when done.
