The Microsoft Teams mobile application provides Stonehill College students, faculty, and staff with a powerful and flexible platform for communication, collaboration, and productivity on the go. Available for both iOS and Android devices, the Teams mobile app extends the full functionality of the desktop application to your smartphone or tablet, ensuring seamless integration with your Stonehill College Microsoft 365 account.
Chat, Calls, and Meetings
Chat
Engage in one-on-one or group chats with individuals and teams across Stonehill College. You can send text messages, share images, and use various formatting options to convey your message effectively.
-
Channels: Access and participate in team channels, which serve as dedicated spaces for specific projects, departments, or courses. Within channels, you can view conversations, share updates, and collaborate on shared resources.
Calls
- Initiating Calls: To make a call, tap the Calls icon at the bottom of the screen. You can then use the dial pad to enter a number, select a contact from your list, or choose from your call history.
- Receiving Calls: Incoming Teams calls will appear on your device's screen, similar to a standard phone call, indicating that the call is from Microsoft Teams. You can answer with audio only or with video.
Meetings
Join and host online meetings directly from your mobile device. The app supports audio and video conferencing, screen sharing, and meeting chat, allowing you to participate fully in virtual sessions.
- Moving Between Devices During Meetings: If you're in a meeting on one device (e.g., your laptop) and need to switch to another (e.g., your phone), open the Teams app on the second device. A prompt will appear asking if you want to join the ongoing meeting. You will have two options: "Add this device" (to participate on both devices) or "Transfer to this device" (to move the meeting entirely to the new device). Selecting "Transfer to this device" will seamlessly shift your meeting participation, allowing you to maintain your audio and video preferences.
File Access and Sharing
The Teams mobile app provides robust capabilities for managing your files:
Accessing Files
- Channels: Files uploaded to a specific channel are stored in the associated SharePoint folder and can be accessed via the Files tab within that channel.
- Chats: Files shared in one-on-one or group chats are stored in your OneDrive and are accessible through the Shared tab within the chat conversation.
- OneDrive: You can directly access all files stored in your Stonehill College OneDrive account by tapping the Files icon (or sometimes "More" then "Files") in the navigation bar. This includes your personal files, shared files, and favorites.
Sharing Files
- From your device: When composing a message in a chat or channel, tap the attachment icon (often represented by a paperclip) and select "Upload from this device" to share a file directly from your mobile phone or tablet.
- From cloud storage (OneDrive): You can also share files that are already stored in your OneDrive by selecting "OneDrive" from the attachment options.
- Sharing existing Teams files: Navigate to the desired file within a chat or channel, tap the "More options" icon (often three dots), and select "Share" to send it to another chat or channel.
Notifications and Settings
- Customizable Notifications: Tailor your notification preferences to receive alerts for new messages, mentions, meeting reminders, and other activities. You can set quiet hours or days to manage when you receive notifications (Tap your profile icon at the top-left > Settings > Block Notifications).
- Status Updates: Easily update your presence status (available, busy, do not disturb, etc.) and set custom status messages to inform others of your availability.
