Configuring the Verkada Pass app

This article will cover how to set up the Verkada Pass app for use on an iOS or Android device. The Pass app will act as your mobile credential when unlocking doors in your building, as well as the entrance gates to enter the campus with your vehicle.

Installing the Verkada Pass app

iOS

1. On your iPhone, tap the button below, or search and download the Verkada Pass app from the App Store.
    
2. Once you have the app installed, open it and enter your Stonehill email address. Then tap Continue.
    
3. Select Log in with Single Sign-On. 
   DO NOT select either the buttons to "Email me the link" or "Password." You will not be able to log in.
    
4. You should be prompted for your email address again, type it in and then select Next.
   
   
   Note: Verkada might open the Microsoft Authenticator App to verify you. Acknowledge that you're logging in and provide the two-digit number to Authenticator to complete login. Then return to the Verkada Pass App.   
    
5. Follow the prompts within the app to enable Bluetooth. Note that enabling Bluetooth is required, as it is the core functionality of the app to unlock nearby doors.
   • Pass will ask for Bluetooth permissions on your device. Tap Manage Bluetooth Settings.
     
      
   • Then tap Allow on the prompt.
     
      
6. Verkada will then ask for location permissions on your device. Tap Manage Location Settings. 
    
   Note: For the best experience using the Pass App, we strongly recommended that you enable location settings on your phone for use within the app. Location is used to allow remote unlock and to wake up the app to enable background Bluetooth unlock as you get close to a door or gate. Note that Verkada has an explicit privacy note for location services that states: "The Verkada Pass app only uses a user’s location locally on the phone. Verkada does not log it and does not send it to our servers."
   
    
7. Then tap Allow While Using App on the prompt.
   
    
8. Follow the prompts within the app to update Location settings.
   • Verkada will then ask you to update location to be more precise. Tap Set Location to "Always" in Settings. 
      
   • This will open your Location Settings in the settings app, select Always. 
     
     Note: Ensure that Precise Location is also toggled on, as shown above. 
      
9. Return to the Verkada Pass App and follow the prompts to enable Notifications.
   • These notifications will let you know if you've been logged out of the Pass App or if a configuration setting needs to be modified for Pass App to work seamlessly. Tap Manage Notifications Settings.
     
      
   • Then tap Allow.

Android 

1. From your Android phone, tap the button below or search to download the Verkada Pass app from the Google Play Store.
   
    
2. Once you have the app installed, open it and enter your Stonehill email address. Then tap Continue. 
   
    
3. Select Log in with SAML SSO. 
   DO NOT select either the buttons to "Email me the link" or "Password." You will not be able to log in.
   
   Note: Verkada might open the Microsoft Authenticator App to verify you. Acknowledge that you're logging in and provide the two-digit number to Authenticator to complete login. Then return to the Verkada Pass App.   
    
4. Verkada will then ask for location permissions on your device. Tap Enable Location.

5. Then tap While using the app on the prompt.
   
    
6. Verkada will you to Enable Microphone. Stonehill does not use this feature so you can just hit Skip. 
   
    
7. Follow the prompts to enable notifications.

• ​​​​​​Verkada is going to ask for notification permissions. These notifications will let you know if you've been logged out of the Pass App or if a configuration setting needs to be modified for Pass App to work seamlessly. Tap Enable Notifications.
  
   
• Then tap Allow.
  
   

8. Follow the prompts to enable Bluetooth.

• Pass will ask to use your phone's Bluetooth to connect with nearby door and gate readers so that you can unlock them via the app. Click Enable Bluetooth.
  
   
• Then tap Allow. 
   

Using the app 

To use the app at a door, approach the door. If you are authorized to unlock the door, it will unlock for you when you get within roughly 3 feet of the door. 

To use at the gates, have your phone with you in the car as you approach. If authorized, the gate will open when your phone is within roughly 9 feet of the gate. If you have trouble, try ensuring that your phone is high enough enough for the reader to recognize it (such as at or above dashboard level).
