Allow Safe Senders, Block Junk, & Report Phishing

You can use Outlook for Windows or Microsoft 365 to manage your safe senders, blocked senders, and report phishing in your Stonehill email.

Outlook for Windows

Allow a safe sender from an email within Outlook

Safe senders should be senders that you trust that should never be filtered to your junk email folder.

  1. Open an email message in Outlook.
  2. Under the Message ribbon, in the Delete group of icons. select the Junk drop-down and choose Never BlockSender to add the sender to your Safe Senders list. 

Allow safe senders by email address in Outlook

  1. Under the Home tab, in the Delete group of icons, select the Junk button, and choose Junk Email Options from the drop-down menu.
  2. Select the Safe Senders tab, and then click the Add button.
  3. Within the Add address or domain window that displays, enter the email address or the domain for the sender you wish to allow through the SPAM filter into your inbox.
    • e.g. johnsmith@cnn.com for an email address, or enter @cnn.com to allow anything from that domain.
  4. Click the OK button.
  5. The address or domain you entered will be added to your Safe Senders list.
  6. Repeat steps 3-5 for every email address or domain you wish to add.
  7. Click the Apply button and then the OK button.

Block a sender from an email within Outlook

Blocked senders will be filtered to your junk email folder and eventually end up filtered by the Spam Filter into Quarantine. 

  1. Open an email message in Outlook.
  2. Under the Message ribbon, in the Delete group of icons, select the Junk drop-down and choose Block Sender to add the sender to your Blocked Senders list. Future messages from that sender will first be filtered to junk and eventually be blocked by the SPAM filter.

To block senders by email address in Outlook

  1. Open your Outlook desktop client.
  2. Under the Home tab, in the Delete group, select the Junk button, and choose Junk Email Options from the drop-down menu.
  3. Select the Blocked Senders tab, and then click the Add button.
  4. Within the Add address or domain window that displays, enter the email address or the domain for the sender you wish to block from reaching your inbox.
    • e.g. johnsmith@cnn.com for an email address, or enter cnn.com to block anything from that domain.
  5. Click the OK button.
  6. The address or domain you entered will be added to your Blocked Senders list.
  7. Repeat steps 3-5 for every email address or domain you wish to block.
  8. Click the Apply button and then the OK button.

Report Phishing

  1. From within the Outlook client or within a message, click the Report Phishing button on the right,

    ...or under the Home tab in the "Protection" section, towards the right side of the Ribbon.

  2. Confirm the report at the next window.

Office365 for Webmail and Mac Users

To allow safe senders from Webmail in Office365

Safe senders should be senders that you trust that should never be filtered to your junk email folder.

  1. Log in to http://office365.stonehill.edu using your Stonehill email address and password.
  2. Select Outlook to access your email.
  3. Select the gear icon  in the top, right-hand corner of the screen and choose View All Outlook Settings at the bottom of the right-hand slide out. 
  4. Under the Layout section, select the Junk Email option.
  5. In the right section of the screen, you will have an +Add option under the safe senders/domains area. Clicking on this will bring up an input field to place the safe email/domain into. Once an email or domain is entered, press the Enter button and it will be added to the safe sender's list.

To remove a safe sender or domain

  1. To remove an entry from Safe senders and recipients, select the entry to highlight it, and then select the trash icon.
  2. Select Save to save your changes.

To edit a safe sender or domain

  1. To change an entry in Safe senders and recipients, select the entry to highlight it, and then select the pencil icon.edit
  2. Make any changes you want.
  3. Select Save to save your changes.

To block senders from Webmail in Office365

Blocked senders will be filtered to your junk email folder and eventually end up filtered by the Spam Filter into Quarantine.

  1. To remove an entry from your Blocked sender's list, select the entry to highlight it, and then select the trash icon.
  2. Select Save to save your changes.

To edit a blocked sender or domain

  1. To change an entry in Blocked senders, select the entry to highlight it, and then select the pencil icon edit
  2. Make any changes you want.
  3. Select Save to save your changes.

Report Phishing

  1. From within the Outlook Web App or within a message, click the Report button on the right.

     
  2. Confirm the report at the next window:
