You can submit online assignments in Canvas using several submission types. Instructors can choose what kind of online submissions they want you to use. You may also have the option to resubmit assignments if your instructor allows.
Any attachments added as part of a graded assignment submission are also copied to your user files but are not counted against your user quota. However, once the file has been uploaded as a submission, you cannot delete the file. Files are stored in the Submissions folder.
Before submitting an assignment, you may want to review all assignment information, such as the assignment rubric, if any.
- Not all file types may be available for your assignment, depending on the assignment submission type set by your instructor.
- Not all of your assignments may be submitted online. If you cannot see the Submit Assignment link, your instructor may want you to submit your assignment in a different way, or the availability date has passed. View the description of the assignment for instructions, or contact your instructor for assistance.
- Canvas does not support file uploads larger than 5 GB.
- Group assignments do not support the student annotation submission type.

Open Assignments
In Course Navigation, click the Assignments link in the Course Navigation Menu.
If your professor has hidden the Assignments link from the Course Navigation menu, they could be accessed via the course Modules.
Note: You can also access your Assignments through your user or course dashboard, the Syllabus, Gradebook, Calendar, or a course Page via hyperlink.

Click on the name of an assignment.

Start Assignment
Clicking on the name of an Assignment will bring you to the assignment details page. If your assignment has a limited number of submissions, you can view the number of submission attempts you have made [1] and the number of submissions allowed for the assignment [2].
Here you will find the points for the assignment [3], details and instructions for the assignment [4], a rubric if one was applied [5], and submission type(s) available for the assignment [6].

Select Submission Type
Your instructor will decide what kinds of submissions are appropriate for each Assignment.
Multiple submission types exist:
- Text Entry [1]
- Enter a Website URL [2]
- Submit Media [3]
- Student Annotation [4]
- File Upload [5]
- Office 365 Submission [6]
You can only select one submission type per submission.
Note: Not all file types may be available for your Assignment, depending on the assignment submission type set by your instructor.

Submit a Text Entry
To submit a text entry assignment, select the Text Entry button [1]. Type your submission into the Rich Content Editor (the RCE) [2] and click the Submit Assignment button [3] when complete.
Note: The assignment submission Rich Content Editor includes a word count display below the bottom right corner of the text box.

Submit a Web URL
To submit a website URL, select the Web URL button [1], and type the Website URL you would like to submit for the assignment into the Enter Web URL field (2].
Then, click the Submit Assignment button [3].

Submit an Office 365 OneDrive File
We highly recommend storing your course files within your Stonehill OneDrive. This way, they are always backed up and available from any device with an Internet connection.
- To submit a file from your Office 365 OneDrive, click on the Office 365 button [1], and then click on the Log In button [2].
- On the Office365 PDX screen, click on the Authorize button.
- Click on the Log In to Office 365 button to login to your Stonehill Office 365 account.
- You will be signed in and connected to your Stonehill OneDrive. Navigate to the file you would like to submit [1]], click into the check box to insert a check mark [2], and click the Attach File button [3].
- Notice how the submission type changed from Office 365 to Upload [1] and how the OneDrive file you chose to attach is listed [2].
- Click the Submit Assignment button [3] to submit to Office 365 OneDrive file.

Submit a File Upload
- Select the File Upload button [1] to upload a file from your computer.
- Either drag and drop the file you are submitting for the assignment into the Drag a file here, or Choose a file to upload area [2].
- Or, click on the Drag a file here, or Choose a file to upload area [2].
- In the File Upload window that displays [1], navigate to and select the file(s) you would like to submit [2].
- Then, click the Open button [3].
- Confirm that your file(s) are attached to the assignment submission [1]. If you need to delete the file, click the Delete (Trashcan) icon [2].
- Then click the Submit Assignment button [3].
Submit a Panopto Video or Audio File
- Click on the Text button [1] and then select the Panopto icon in the Rich Content Editor [2].
- In the Panopto Video window, you have three options:

Choose a file from Panopto.
- Make sure the Choose tab is selected (default) [1].
- Select the Panopto folder you want to submit a Panopto file from using the drop-down menu [2].
- Select the Panopto file you would like to submit for the assignment [3].
- Click the Insert button [4].

Upload a file from your computer.
- Make sure the Upload tab is selected [1]. and change the folder to My Folder in the drop-down menu.
- Click and drag the file you want to upload into the Drag video or audio files here (or click to find on your computer) area [2]. Or click on this area, and browse your computer for the file you want to upload.
- Once the file has completed uploading and processing, it will have a green checkmark [1], and you will be able to click the Insert button [2].

Record a new audio and/or video file to submit.
- Make sure the Record tab is selected [1].
- Name your recording in the aptly named field [2].
- Under the How would you like to record? heading, select Panopto for Windows/Mac [3], then click the Launch App button [4].
- If you need to download and install the Panopto App, click the Download link [5].
- The Panopto recorder will launch. For instructions on using the Panopto recorder, please visit our Getting Started with Panopto page.
- You will see a Recording Complete window when you have completed recording with Panopto. Enter a Session name [1] and optional description [2], and then click the Done button [3].
- The video will process and then display on the Panopto Video window [1]. Click the Insert button [2] to add the video to your assignment.
- The inserted Panopto file will display within the Rich Content Editor (The RCE) [1]. Add any additional text or content into the RCE, and click the Submit Assignment button when ready [2].
